Eligibility for Hospice Care
Patients who have been diagnosed with a life-limiting illness and have decided to forego or discontinue curative treatments are eligible for hospice care.
What types of illnesses are most common for hospice care patients?
Patients who are eligible for hospice generally have been diagnosed with a life-limiting illness that estimates they have six months or less to live. Some of the most common conditions are (but not limited to):
- AIDS/HIV
- Alzheimer’s Disease or Other Dementias
- Cancer
- Diabetes
- Heart Disease
- Kidney or Liver Failure
