The most common questions from our patients and their loved ones

  • Is Hospice expensive?

Hospice care is covered by Medicare, Medicaid and most insurance companies. We will work with each patient to maximize the value of whatever Private Insurance that’s in place.

  • Is hospice for people who are in the last 48 hours of life?

We encourage families to speak with their physicians about hospice as soon as they are diagnosed with a life limiting illness. To get the most benefits from hospice care, starting care sooner rather than later can help the patient get their pain managed sooner and allow our team to  help the patient and family through this challenging time.

  • Will my loved one be incoherent from pain medication?

From our experience, pain management is one of the patients and families primary goals, therefore we strive to decrease any pain or discomfort with not only medication, but non pharmacological treatments for pain and anxiety. Our goal is to manage our patients pain, while allowing them to function to do their daily activities.

  • Will I have to leave my house for hospice care?

No. Our team will come to wherever the patients calls “home.” However, if a patient has to be hospitalized, hospice care will resume once the patient is released back to their home or nursing facility.

  • Do I have to be homebound to get hospice care?

No. We encourage our patients to stay as active as possible (without causing any further pain or discomfort) and continue living the life that brings them happiness.

  • If I’m in the hospital, can I choose my own hospice company to provide care?

Yes. Some hospitals have their own hospice, however you and your family can choose any hospice that you feel most comfortable with. Remember this is an important decision, so make sure it is the right choice for you and your family
